Reds up, then down, then up

It's the ninth inning at Shea, and the Reds went from up by one on the 7th to down by one in the ninth w/two outs. Then Kearns got on, the next batter walked and the next got an infield single.
So, bases loaded.
Brandon Phillips, my favorite new Red, got down 0-2 then dropped a fastball into shallow center. Reds up by one again. Now Coffey is pitching with one on and one out in the ninth. Ugh. Hope we can win this and get on another roll.
It'd be nice to have a winning season. Amazingly after losing five straight until a couple of days ago, we're still first in the wild card. The whole league is smarting from the interleague beatdown.

Update: DP, Reds win.

Minority voting rights

Republican Congressional leaders today put off an expected vote renewing the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which enfranchised minority voters. They claim the language of the act unfairly singles out nine southern states for Justice Department scrutiny of voting rights laws. With all of the voting problems in Ohio, they might be right to hold all 50 states to these standards, but my guess is it's a move to scrap the standards.

Seems you can read this quote with respect to minority voting rights both inside and outside the House:

'The speaker's had a standing rule that nothing would be voted on unless there's a majority of the majority,'' said Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga., who led the objections. ''It was pretty clear at the meeting that the majority of the majority wasn't there.''

Next six months in Iraq are crucial...

That's what one expert has said for years.

This is a test picture of Scruffy. Tonight I did the dishes and read Bionicle to the Curlbot.

House next door

We had neighbors in the house next door, but now we don't. Happily.
The house was abondoned by the former neighbors. Now, a man has purchased the house and is working to fix it up and resell it, hopefully by the end of spring. We hope he does.
